Pisces Moon's "Bócona!" at Cesar Chavez Middle School in Watsonville
Multi-Cultural and Bi-Lingual Production of "Bócona!" at Cesar Chavez Middle School, May 2007

Since 1992, Pisces Moon artists have been part of the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County's SPECTRA program (SPECial Teaching Resource in the Arts), when Artistic Director Susan Myer Silton became a SPECTRA artist. Since then, many Pisces Moon artist-instructors have written and produced plays with Santa Cruz County students of all ages and in all types of schools, including private, charter and home schools. They have introduced students to disciplines such as play writing, acting, singing and musical composition, dance and art for the stage. Students have written and performed their original plays and musicals, including multi-cultural and bi-lingual plays, as well as poetry for performance.

Through SPECTRA's award-winning program, a Pisces Moon drama teacher will come to your school or home school and provide interactive classes including playwriting and acting. We will stage plays school-wide or in individual classrooms. We'll also work with teachers to integrate theatre arts with other disciplines.

Pisces Moon artist-instructors are committed to full integration of the theater arts in the educational experience. That is why our most popular classes and residencies involve the composition of performance pieces  with the students, the themes of which center around their studies in history, science, math and literature. The students also write about personal and social issues they are experiencing in their daily lives.

Our artist-instructors are fluent in Spanish, French and Nepali.

Pisces Moon's page
in the Arts Learning Resource
Directory includes descriptions of the classes and residencies that we offer. We also tailor our classes to the individual and specific needs and requests of the host school.

Pisces Moon's artist-instructors are experienced professional artists and teachers who meet the Cultural Council's rigorous best practices standards and are knowledgeable about California Standards for Visual and Performing Arts. SPECTRA is now in its 25th year of providing county schools with extended visual and performing arts residencies and performances; recruiting, screening, and assisting local artists to deliver a full spectrum of standards-based art instruction.

Santa Cruz County schools where Pisces Moon has taught theater arts, as well as and written and performed plays and poems with students, include A.F.E.(Alternative Family Education), Amesti, Brook Knoll, Cesar Chavez Middle School, E.A. Hall Middle School, Empire Academy, Linscott Elementary, Main Street Elementary, Monarch, Pacific Coast Charter School, Pajaro Valley High School, Shoreline Middle School, and Valencia Elementary.
